Thursday 13 - Upon the Shelf

I would like to dedicate this weeks Thursday 13 to all of the books that are currently mocking me. Some have been doing so for a few years. The following is an ode to 13 books that are sitting upon a shelf waiting for me to read them. Enjoy...and it is quite a varied list of literary goodness. Welcome to the glimpse into my scattered interests...

1. Better: A Surgeon's Notes on Performance - Atul Gawande

2. Water for Elephants - Sara Gruen

3. Agnes and the Hitman - Jennifer Cruise and Bob Mayer

4. One Bullet Away - Nathanial Fick

5. One Fifth Avenue - Candace Bushnell

6. Jude the Obscure - Thomas Hardy

7. A Widow's Walk - Marian Fontana

8. The Gatecrasher - Madeleine Wickham

9. Handle with Care - Jodi Picoult

10. Acceptance - Susan Coll

11. Something Borrowed - Emily Giffin

12. The First Five - Henry Rollins

13. Thirteen Moons - Charles Frazier

Interesting titles. I'm interested on nos. 4 and 7. no. 6 - seems to fit. It doesn't sound as famous as the others Hardy wrote. Happy T13

Good list. I think there is a reading challenge that is all about reading books already on your shelf ... or in a stack by the bed, like mine.

I loved Water For Elephants!

I'm so stuck on the classics that I have to admit to having never heard of any these titles or writers. Maybe it's time to come down from the literary ivory tower in which I've been living, LOL!

Oh dear - I don't want books stalking me or glaring at me impatiently waiting their turn! That's why I keep my to read pile at the library ;0)

"Better" sounds interesting - is it a memoir/auto.bio or more technical?

"Water for Elephants" was enjoyable - I had a nice small group discussion after that one.

"Thirteen Moons" was tough. The story was nice but Frazier fell in love with his own descriptive writing so much that I felt I was reading a screenplay instead. I didn't read "Cold Mountain" but I would gather the style is very similar.

I have a few on my shelf waiting for me, too. I try to ignore them, but once in a while they call to me.

Some good books here. Last week's Thursday 13 is a list of the last 13 books I read. I love to read and read every day before bed.

I have quite a TBR pile, too! I'll be interested to hear how you liked the Bushnell book. I expected her style to be reminisent of the Sex & the City show ... and it so isn't!
